Use the earlier contract template editor

Edit reusable wording when Templates → Contract shows expandable sections instead of a template list.

On this page

Use this guide if Templates → Contract opens expandable wording sections. If the page shows a template list with New template and Set default, use Contract Templates instead.

Before you edit

Have contract wording approved by the person responsible for your organisation’s agreements. The wording is shared across the organisation, so decide whether a change belongs in the template or in one contract’s available fields.

Edit wording

  1. Open Templates → Contract.
  2. Expand the section you want to change.
  3. Edit the wording with the available heading, emphasis, list, table, and indentation controls.
  4. Stop typing and wait for the update status to confirm the change has saved.
  5. Reopen the section and check the saved content before leaving.

This editor saves automatically after a short pause. It has no separate Save template button.

Sections can include Cover page, Pre contract summary, product details, exclusions, excavation and disposal, rates, warranties, reasons for price variations, the customer checklist, Standard Conditions, Approvals Document, and Special Conditions. Avoid adding wording to sections marked deprecated.

Keep Customer checklist (must be single ordered list) as one ordered list. Preserve existing placeholders unless you have checked what they produce.

Check the result

Start contract creation from an appropriate test proposal. Review the wording in the form, the generated PDF, and Preview in Gateway before sending a real contract.

Special Conditions are loaded into the creation form and can be changed for that contract. Other template sections are used where supported by the contract’s document flow. Earlier contracts do not all preserve wording in the same way as contracts created with the template list, so do not assume a template edit leaves every historical rendering unchanged.

Document type business details and product category assignments are managed under Contract Document Types. Payment instructions are configured under Contract Payment Options.

Common problems

  • A change did not save: Wait for the update status. If there is an error, keep a copy of the wording and try again.
  • An open form still shows old wording: Reopen contract creation to load the saved wording.
  • PDF formatting differs: Use the supported editor controls and check the generated PDF. Complex pasted formatting may not carry across cleanly.
  • A separate agreement has the wrong identity: Review its Contract Document Type business details.
